Advanced Norwegian Courses for Employees at the Latvian Embassy in Norway – Building Strong Language Foundations for Daily and Professional Life
The Latvian Embassy in Norway serves as a vital link between Latvia and Norway, supporting diplomatic relations, cultural exchange, and the Latvian community abroad. For embassy staff living and working in Norway, strong language skills are essential—not only in formal settings, but also in everyday life. To support this need, NLS Norwegian Language School provided general advanced Norwegian language courses to employees at the embassy.
The goal of the training was to strengthen the participants’ overall proficiency in Norwegian at an advanced level (B1–B2), enabling them to express themselves naturally, understand nuanced language, and interact with confidence in a wide range of social and professional situations. While not specifically business-focused, the course supported broad communication needs that are common in an embassy environment, including participating in conversations, reading Norwegian media, writing clear and structured texts, and understanding the cultural context behind the language.
The curriculum included vocabulary expansion, advanced grammar, reading comprehension, and oral fluency training. A variety of authentic materials—such as news articles, literature excerpts and interviews—were used to immerse participants in real-life language usage. The course also included plenty of speaking practice, helping learners improve pronunciation, spontaneity, and clarity in dialogue.
Lessons were delivered by experienced native-speaking instructors, and adapted to the individual needs and interests of the participants. The focus was on building both language competence and confidence, in a supportive and motivating learning environment.
We are proud to have supported the Latvian Embassy in Norway with this tailored general Norwegian language training, and to have helped their staff feel more at home—linguistically and culturally—in Norway.
