Saga Welco AS is a major shipping company headquartered in Norway, specializing in open hatch vessel operations and international cargo logistics. With a strong global presence and a growing need for efficient communication across cultural and linguistic borders, Saga Welco identified the importance of equipping its employees with the ability to communicate in Chinese—especially in light of its partnerships and operations involving China.
NLS Norwegian Language School has had the pleasure of providing long-term Chinese language training for Saga Welco’s employees. This has been a fixed and ongoing collaboration, with regular classes tailored to the company’s needs. The training has supported staff from beginner level—with no prior knowledge of the language—to achieving a solid understanding and practical command of Chinese.
The course has covered a wide range of skills, including spoken Chinese for business communication, reading industry-relevant texts, and developing listening comprehension in professional contexts. Grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation were taught systematically, and students gradually progressed through different levels of fluency.
Special focus was placed on vocabulary and expressions relevant to the shipping and logistics industry, enabling employees to better engage with Chinese partners and stakeholders in their daily work. The teaching methods included interactive dialogue practice, reading of real-world materials, and culturally informed communication strategies to support professional interactions.
