Specialized Language Courses for Children with Special Needs – A Meaningful Collaboration with Bærum Municipality
Bærum Kommune is known for its strong commitment to inclusive education and equal opportunities for all children, regardless of background or learning challenges. As part of this mission, the municipality partnered with NLS Norwegian Language School to provide specialized Norwegian language courses for children with special needs, tailored to support both language development and individual learning abilities.
These courses were designed to help children with various developmental, cognitive, or language-related challenges strengthen their communication skills in Norwegian. The training focused not only on basic language acquisition—such as vocabulary, sentence structure, and listening comprehension—but also on building confidence and creating a safe, engaging learning environment where every child could progress at their own pace.
Our instructors, all with experience in special education and language teaching, adapted the content and methods according to the individual needs of each participant. This included using visual aids, multisensory activities, structured routines, and personalized materials. Lessons often integrated play, music, storytelling, and movement-based learning to support attention, memory, and language retention in a child-friendly and motivating way.
Classes were delivered one-on-one or in very small groups to ensure individual follow-up and meaningful interaction. The courses also encouraged collaboration with school staff and parents, to ensure continuity and relevance to the child’s daily life and academic setting.
We are proud to have worked with Bærum Kommune in this important initiative. It has been a privilege to support the language development of children with special needs and to contribute to their inclusion, communication skills, and confidence in Norwegian-speaking environments.
