Learn Norwegian: Colors in Norwegian and How to Use Them

If you are going to move to Norway it’s practical to know how to express what you like, and it’s nice to know what colors are called in the Norwegian language when start speaking Norwegian.

The word “colors” in Norwegian is “farger.” These are basic Norwegian words and something you as a Norwegian learner should grasp. Because if you going to communicate with someone in Norwegian society, you also should find a way to learn Norwegian and learn Norwegian vocabulary in addition to Norwegian culture.

 

Learn to Speak Better Norwegian: The colors

 

Here are some tips for learning Norwegian fast and some basic guidelines for using colors in Norwegian:

When using colors with nouns in the plural, add -e: “svarte skyer” (black clouds).

 

When a noun is in a definite form, add -e as well. This is true even in singular:

“det hvite papiret” (the white paper)

“de svarte jakkene” (the black jackets)

 

When colors describe an indefinite neuter noun in the singular, add the suffix -t:

 

“et rødt papir” (a red paper)

“et hvitt hus” (a white car)

 

Note that “blå” (blue), “grå” (grey), “hvit” (white) get -tt with neuter nouns:

“et blått skjørt” (a blue skirt)

“et hvitt papir” (a white paper) etc.

 

“Blå” (blue), “grå” (grey), “oransje” (orange), “lilla” (purple), “beige” (beige), and “rosa “(pink) have no modification in the plural:

“blå hus” (blue houses)

“grå gardiner” (grey curtains)

“Oransje” (orange), “lilla” (purple), “beige” (beige), and “rosa “(pink) does not alter according to gender or number to comply with the word they modify.

 

“et rosa skjørt” (a pink skirt)

“en rosa bil” (a blue car)

red rød (masculine, feminine), rødt (neuter), røde (plural)

white hvit (masculine, feminine), hvitt (neuter), hvite (plural)

yellow gul (masculine, feminine) , gult (neuter), gule (plural)
